Independent Advocacy Service

The independent advocacy service, which runs out of the Deal Centre, is for people age 55 and over in Dover, Deal and Thanet. For more information visits the website

The Independent Advocacy Service provides an independent service working with and for older people in the Dover, Deal and Thanet area. Sometimes, whether through frailty, disability, financial circumstances or social attitudes it may be difficult for people to exercise choice and get their voices heard. We believe that people are entitled to be in charge of their own lives.

What is Advocacy?

  • A principle of advocacy is to enable people to have and keep as much control as possible of their own lives.
  • Advocacy supports people to consider choices and know their rights.
  • Advocacy is a way of helping to make sure that decisions are respected and acted on.

How will we work with you?

The Side by Side Advocacy Service is free, independent and confidential. We will work alongside you in discussing your concerns and how you wish to be supported. We will help you to promote your views and ideas and will ensure that your wishes are acted upon. Our responsibility is to you and your needs now and in the future.

We can help with a wide range of issues such as safeguarding, health and social care and housing. We are able to arrange visits at a location that suits you: at home, in residential care homes, in hospital, at Social Services offices, in Day Centres and in Community Centres.
